ScopeX is a Telescope & Astronomy Expo held annually on Astronomy Day by the Johannesburg
Centre of the Astronomical Society of Southern Africa (ASSA).
The main activities are:
- Talks in the auditorium; - Science Shows throughout the day; - Displays of self-made and commercial telescopes and related items; - Looking through telescopes during the day and evening; - Amateur Telescope Making exhibit including mirror grinding demonstrations; - Workshops for new or potential telescope owners; - Raffle with great prizes (such as a telescope); - Star party from 6pm (weather permitting). Bring a picnic and join us on the lawns.The theme for this year is Space Travel. We are excited to announce that Mike Melvill (First Civilian Astronaut, SpaceShipOne and a native of South Africa) will be the key note speaker. We normally do not charge for talks, but this is an exception as there are costs involved. Mail lerika@icon.co.za to book (R50 per person).
